DAVE LEE TRAVIS

Dave Lee Travis was born in Buxton, Derbyshire & spent his early life in Manchester where he created an interest in both the music business & photography.

In 1964, he talked his way into a job on Radio Caroline South after doing some DJ work around the Manchester clubs. He spent two years on the ship before moving to Caroline's north ship for six months off the Isle of Man. When pirate ships became illegal, Dave returned to Manchester & after some time planning his next career move, was given the job of presenting the BBC lunch-time radio show, Pop North.

In 1993 Dave started a new career stage with commercial radio. For 18 months he presented an extremely popular Sunday morning show broadcast to 27 Independent stations nationwide. Dave has presented numerous shows for various stations including the GWR Classic Gold Network, BBC3 Counties radio, Spectrum FM & also Newcastle's Magic AM 1152.

Dave's television work has included; The Golden Oldie Picture Show, Top of the Pops, Photo Assignment Week, The British Rock & Pop Awards, Saturday Night Affair plus numerous appearances on popular game shows such as Blankety Blank, Celebrity Squares, What's My Line, Ask No Questions & Give Us a Clue. He also completed a 13-part TV series which looked back at the origins of our current music industry, Archive Jive.

Dave has a keen interest in photography & cars. He is an Associate of the Royal Photographic Society & in 1985 published the book, A Bit of a Star - a collection of thought provoking colour pictures of well-known media women. During the 1970s Dave enjoyed drag racing at Santa Pod. His first car was an Escort, 'Tender Trap' which did 0-60 in 2 seconds. By the late 1970s he was racing a full-blown top fuel dragster called 'The Needle', in this car he covered the standing quarter mile in 6.6 seconds with a terminal speed of 220 miles per hour. Nowadays Dave enjoys the slightly slower pace of his 1936 Type 68 Ford 3 window coupe.

Dave Lee Travis lives in a Hertfordshire farmhouse with his wife Marianne, two dogs, two cats & a variety of farm animals!
