SIR DAVID FROST OBE

Sir David Frost is a writer, journalist & television presenter, best-known as a pioneer of political satire on television & for his serious interviews of political figures - the most notable of which being Richard Nixon.

Sir David attended Cambridge University & became the editor of the student newspaper & literary magazine. He was also the secretary of the famous Footlights Drama Society which included actors such as Peter Cook & John Bird. After leaving university, he worked for Anglia Television whilst at the same time keeping up with his cabaret performances.

Ned Sherrin, the writer & producer of That Was The Week That Was, had previously seen Sir David & invited him to host this pioneering satirical programme, which he did for a number of years including special editions - That Was The Year That Was.

Following the success of That Was The Week That Was, Sir David fronted a number of other programmes including; Not So Much A Programme - More A Way Of Life, David Frost Presents, Frost On Sunday, Frost Over America, Good Morning Britain, Breakfast With Frost, Through The Keyhole & The Frost Report - which launched the television careers of John Cleese, Ronnie Barker & Ronnie Corbett. Interviewees from the world of showbiz included The Beatles, Mick Jagger, Orson Welles, Tennessee Williams & Noel Coward. Key international figures appeared week after week in the 1970s, 80s & 90s including the seven most recent American Presidents & British Prime Ministers, the Shah of Iran, King Hussein, Golda Meir, Moshe Dayan & Yitzhak Rabin.

In the wake of John F. Kennedy's assassination, Sir David paid tribute to him on That Was The Week That Was which subsequently saw his fame spread to the United States. His Nixon interviews achieved 'the largest audience for a news interview in history' - New York Times. In addition to their unprecedented impact in the United States, the interviews were also seen either in English or dubbed into local languages in almost every television nation in the world. To satisfy the worldwide interest in these interviews, Sir David released the book Frost/Nixon.

To honour Sir David Frost the BBC devoted an evening of programmes celebrating Forty Years With Frost. He has also received just about every major TV award there is including; the Royal Television Society Silver Medal, Emmy Award for The David Frost Show, TV Personality of the Year, Guild of Television Producers Award, BAFTA Academy Fellowship, the Richard Dimbleby Award, the Golden Rose of Montreux & was knighted by HM The Queen in the 1993 New Year's Honours List.

Sir David Frost is currently hosting Frost Tonight for ITV, presenting Frost Over The World for Aljazeera News & has released the first volume of his autobiography From Congregations to Audiences which became an immediate best-seller.

Sir David's activities during his career have been so diverse that he's been described as a 'one-man conglomerate': host & co-creator of That Was The Week That Was, producer of countless television programmes from A Gift of Song: The Music for UNICEF Concert to the Spectacular World of Guinness Records; author of 15 books, producer of 8 films, publisher, lecturer, impresario & joint founder of London Weekend Television & TV-am. Not to mention the fact that he's perhaps the best-known television interviewer in the world.
