IAN McCASKILL |
| Ian McCaskill was born in Glasgow & educated at Queen's Park School & Glasgow University, where he studied science. National Service took him into the RAF & in 1959 he joined the Meteorological Corps as an Airman Meteorologist based firstly at Kinloss in Scotland & later at RAF Akrotiri on the island of Cyprus. Ian left the RAF in 1961 to join the Met Office, being posted to Preswick Airport, Malta as well as to Manchester Weather Centre. |
| In 1978, Ian transferred to the London Weather Centre & became a member of the BBC's forecasting team in October of that year. Apart from a break between 1983 & 1985 where he worked at Birmingham Airport & as a weatherman for Central Television, he stayed at the BBC until his retirement from the Met Office on 31st July 1998. |
| Ian, lives near Beaconsfield, in Buckinghamshire, is married to Pat & has two daughters. A Fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society, he lists travel & reading amongst his hobbies. He admits to being very fond of food & was honoured to be asked to be a guest judge on BBC1's Masterchef. Ian has made numerous TV appearances including, with his colleague John Kettley, a make-over by the BBC daytime show Style Challenge as well as appearing on GMTV & Fit Club. He has also appeared on a variety of adverts & interview programmes & became the most imitated BBC TV weather forecaster with his very own Spitting Image puppet! |
