JACK DEE

Jack Dee is an actor, comedian & writer who has won world-wide acclaim for his stand-up comedy routines.

This smartly dressed & stony-faced comic made an immediate impact with his debut performance in an open-mike slot at the Comedy Store in London. Encouraged to persist, he wrote much more new material & soon made a name for himself on the comedy club circuit, proving particularly effective as a comedian/compere in addition to his straight stand-up act.

Having forged a highly successful comedic reputation during the 1990s based on the sardonic, dead-pan style of his stand-up routine, Jack shot to even greater fame in 2001 after he won the very first series of Celebrity Big Brother.

Born in 1962, Jack was raised in Winchester. Although originally intending to attend drama school, Jack started his career in catering after his mum persuaded him to pursue a more stable career.

Jack Dee's first big break came when he won the prestigious British Comedy Award for Best Stage Newcomer in 1991. This award led to his own show on Channel 4, The Jack Dee Show which was first aired in 1992 & ran for two series. The show was critically acclaimed & resulted in a move to ITV where Jack hosted Jack Dee's Saturday Night & subsequently Jack Dee's Sunday Service.

Jack also co-wrote a series of dry, witty commercials for John Smiths beer drawn from his professional miserable demeanour.

In 2000, Jack moved to the BBC where he presented two series of Jack Dee's Happy Hour followed by his BAFTA nominated show Jack Dee Live At The Apollo in 2004. Jack Dee Live At The Apollo was a runaway hit & a second series soon followed.

Jacks most recent performances have been in the Lead Balloon, a semi-biographical sitcom he co-wrote which follows the trials & tribulations of Rick Spleen, a disillusioned comedian & writer.
