RACHAEL HEYHOE FLINT

Rachael Heyhoe Flint established herself as a media figure & businesswoman specialising in public relations, sports marketing & promotion & is also well known on the speaker's circuit. In 1973 she was named Best After Dinner Speaker by the Guild of Professional Toastmasters.

Rachael originally taught Physical Education (1960-64) but became a journalist in 1965. Within 4 years was appointed Sports Editor of the Wolverhampton Chronicle & then turned freelance as Sports writer for the Daily & Sunday Telegraph. In 1973 she was appointed TV's first woman sports presenter/reporter with ITV's World of Sport.

Rachael was Captain of England's first women's team to play at Lord's Cricket Ground in 1976. She's scored 30 centuries & her top score was 179 for England v Australia at The Oval in 1976 - still a record for an English player in Test Matches in England.

Rachael also played hockey for England (1964) as goalkeeper & represented Staffordshire for a record 25 years. In addition she also played squash & golf for Staffordshire (lowest handicap of 5). She has written Fair Play, the story of Women's Cricket & Heyhoe, her autobiography as well as two hockey instruction books.

Rachael is now a Public Relations & Sports Marketing Consultant operating from her own office in Wolverhampton. Appointments include; Ambassador/Consultant to La Manga Club in Spain since 1982, Public Relations Manager at Wolverhampton Wanderers FC & also organises national corporate & charity Golf Days.

July 2002 - Bradford - Doctor of Sport
September 2002 - Wolverhampton - Hon. Fellowship-Management & Sport
February 2002 - Greenwich - Doctor of Science
July 2006 - Leeds Metropolitan - Doctor of Sport

In 1995, Rachael was appointed as Deputy Lieutenant of the West Midlands & was a Main Board Director of Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club from 1997-2004, Vice President in 2005. Named as one of the first female Honorary Life members of the MCC in March 1999 & in October 2002 was voted on to the General Committee of the MCC (1st woman in 217 years!). Rachael also sits on the MCC Cricket & Marketing committee.

In 1972, Rachael was awarded her MBE for services to cricket - the first woman to gain the award for cricket deeds. In 2008 Rachael was once again recognised for her charity/cricket work with an OBE.

In 2001, she became President of Lady Taverners, the national charity & fundraising arm of the Lord's Taverners who support youngsters with special needs by providing sports facilities & specially adapted mini-buses. Rachael has helped raise over £6million just in the last few years!
