| An accomplished writer, actor, author, television presenter, director & comedian, Stephen Fry is one of the country's most talented artistes. |
| During his time at Cambridge, Stephen was a member of the famous Footlights along with Emma Thompson, Tony Slattery, Martin Bergmann & Hugh Laurie. His prolific writing partnership with Hugh Laurie began in 1981 when they produced the Footlights Revues for various events including The Mayweek Festival, The Edinburgh Festival & for a three month tour of Australia. |
| Stephen Fry came to the public's attention in the mid-1980s with numerous appearances on Saturday Live, comedy shows such as A Bit Of Fry & Laurie & of course Blackadder. More success came with Jeeves & Wooster based on the P.G. Wodehouse novels with Stephen taking the part of the sagacious butler opposite Hugh Laurie's bumbling Bertie Wooster. |
| In 1984, Stephen was asked to re-write the musical Me & My Girl which subsequently earned him a Tony nomination & then went on to famously star in Cell Mates from which he left three days into the West End run. Stephen has leant his voice to many different projects such as the childrens series Pocoyo & video games including Little Big Planet & the first two Harry Potter games. |
| Stephen's TV credits continued when he became a regular contestant on Whose Line Is It Anyway? & in 1989 played the insane bellowing maniac General Melchett in Blackadder Goes Forth. His many TV & film appearances feature: A Fish Called Wanda, Wilde, Gosford Park, Bright Young Things, The Life & Death of Peter Sellers, V for Vendetta, Kingdom & of course Stephen Fry in America. |
| His awards are too numerous to list but a few include: receiving an honorary doctorate from the University of Dundee, an honorary degree from Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge, honorary president of the Cambridge University Quiz Society & honorary fellow of Queens' College, Cambridge. The BBC dedicated two nights of programming to Stephen in celebration of his 50th birthday, he was granted a Lifetime Achievement Award at the British Comedy Awards, named Pipe Smoker of the Year (before the award was discontinued for legal reasons) & is Vice President of The Noel Coward Society. |
| As an author, Stephen has written: The Liar, Paperweight, Hippopotamus, Making History, The Stars' Tennis Balls & Moab is My Washpot. |
| With the occasional odd moment aside, Stephen is a keen contributor to national newspapers in particular The Daily Telegraph & is the host of the BBC TV quiz show QI. |
