Will Hutton is the former Chief Executive of The Work Foundation.

Will Hutton is currently Chief Executive of the Industrial Society a position he took up in January 2000.  He is the former Editor in Chief of the Observer Newspaper 1996-1999.  Prior to the Observer he was the Economic columnist and Assistant Editor at The Guardian.

He is also a member of the governing council of the Policy Studies Institute, the London School of Economics, the London International Festival Theatre and Charter 88.  He is also on the Editorial Board of the Publication “New Economy” and is honorary Chairman of the Employment Policy Institute.  A former stockbroker Will spent ten years with BBC radio and television and from 1983 to 1988 was Economics correspondent for BBC 2’s “Newsnight”.  He was nominated Political Journalist of the Year in 1993 by Granada TV “What the Papers Say” for his coverage of the 1992 ERM crisis.

Will has written two books the best known of which is “The State We’re In” published in 1995 by Jonathan Cape.  It was the first best seller on political economy for a generation.  The book brings together arguments about the economy, about political reform and about the nature of our society.  It is written with passion and energy and unites the best of liberal and social democratic traditions, questions, orthodox thinking on industry, finance and Britain’s role as a world trading power and more importantly, offers radical solutions.
