A familiar key face of BBC News, Naga Munchetty is one of the main presenters for the BBC’s flagship Breakfast programme. Broadcast live, it delivers news, current affairs, sport, business and magazine features and is watched by more than 12 million viewers each week. She also fronts the European Breakfast News slot for BBC World News.
Born and raised in South London, her passion and determination to reach her full potential saw her earn a Post-graduate Diploma in newspaper journalism from City University after graduating from Leeds University.
Naga’s first job was at The Evening Standard from where she moved to Reuters Financial Television as a reporter. She worked as a senior producer at CNBC Europe and then as producer/reporter for Channel 4 News, News at Noon programme.
Naga landed a senior presenting role at Bloomberg TV where she regularly grilled central bankers and chief executives. After two years, she was lured to front BBC2’s Working Lunch programme and from there moved to BBC World News presenting the European Breakfast programme combining that with one of BBC News’ most coveted roles on the famed red sofa.
Naga is not all work and no play though, she is a very keen golfer and play’s up to five times a week – her handicap is 9, which she is determined to get even lower.
A healthy addiction to the game led to Naga winning Celebrity Mastermind in 2013 on the topic of The Ryder Cup, where she got every question correct on her specialist subject.
Naga is also an honorary celebrity member of The Duke’s 100 – which is part of the charity, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
Keen to empower and inspire women to achieve success, 2014 saw Naga named in the Asian Power list as one of Britain’s most powerful Asian women alongside Liberty Director Shami Chakrabati and Jameela Jamil.
Naga demonstrated her love of animals by lending her support to The Dog’s Trust, assisting the team in walking dogs and providing a helping hand where possible. Combining her love of the outdoors, an active lifestyle and passion for philanthropy, Naga ran the London Marathon in 2013 in sponsorship of United Response, a mental health charity.
