Rene Carayol is the world’s leading speaker on e-business and it’s impact on organisations and people.
René Carayol’s career began at Dixons prior to moving to Marks & Spencer where he spent ten years, mainly in the IT function but also spent some time as a buyer in the menswear department. He left M&S to join Pizza Hut where he held the board position of IT Director of the £180m company.
Having spent three years under the Pepsi umbrella he then moved to IPC Magazines in March 1995 as IT Director. Within twelve months he was awarded a position on the main IPC board. He was part of the successful MBO team that bought itself out from Reed Elsevier for £860m in January 1997.
Having completely transformed IPC Magazines’ IT Group and assisted in the delivery of record profits for the UK’s largest consumer magazine publisher he then acquired board responsibility for what was IPC’s New Media division. Having then conceived and created IPC Electric, IPC’s wholly owned Internet subsidiary, he raised £25m of new equity to fund this initiative.
Having run IPC Electric for just twelve months and having delivered several web properties including beme.com, the leading woman’s portal, René decided to move out of corporate life and pursue his own initiatives in the digital marketplace. He is now e-chairman of a couple of dot.com companies and is a venture partner at a couple of traditional high street retailers, assisting them to successfully launch e-commerce initiatives.
